PORTFOLIO

Justin Henning

As a Seattle native cinematographer and director Justin Henning grew up wandering around the mountains of the Pacific Northwest with a bouldering pad and a chalk bag. This passion for exploration and adventure evolved into a love of documentary photography and photojournalism, and at the University of Washington he worked for The Daily as a staff photographer, while studying at the Jackson School of International Studies.

Ultimately, Justin was drawn towards live action film and commercial cinematography. As a cinematographer, he has worked with some of the biggest brands in the world—Chevy, Audi, Lamborghini, Samsung, Nissan, Nikon and Marriott. Most recently Justin worked as cinematographer on the feature film, The Dougherty Gang, which is slated to be released 2020, and directed a documentary short, La Lucha (The Struggle), which follows two time Olympic gold medalist Cuban boxer Mario Kindelan Mesa and his struggles in choosing the love of his country over personal gain.

Justin’s experience as a cinematographer continues to work fluidly with his directing work, where he regularly performs both roles. This passion for cinematography expresses itself in a specific visual aesthetic, but his goal is never just to make pretty images—it is always to make the script come to life and communicate the story in the most compelling way possible.
